Given the huge interest in Toy Story 3 this year, the appearance of the Jet Pack Buzz Lightyear model is scarcely unexpected. In the event that you haven’t watched the motion picture, Buzz is the spaceman toy who ultimately helps Andy save the other toys from being incinerated.

Rather he helps the bear hold them captive, while at the same time trying to woo Jessie the cowgirl with his Spanish singing.
The Jet Pack Buzz Lightyear doll resembles Buzz on television really closely, and this, on it’s own would make him hugely appealing. Yet he speaks more than 60 different phrases with the same voice as in the film. He’s got two different modes one being toy mode and the second Space Ranger. In toy mode he sounds exactly like any other toy that speaks however when you change him to Space Ranger mode he will come alive. He can even complain to you should you mishandle him. He’s got space wings that expand with blinking lights on each, one red and one green and they alternate at flashing. Of course being Buzz he also has his star command flip up communication on his arm. This flicks up creating a sound. He also has his pulsating laser light weapon.
Jet Pack Buzz LightYear — No More Flamenco
This toy is so like the film version that it’s difficult to find criticism. Some people will miss the karate chop action that he does in the motion picture. He doesn’t dance the flamenco either. In Toy Story 3 Buzz was trying to dazzle Jessie with his dancing ability but he wasn’t very proficient at it!
If your child enjoys Toy Story 3, it really is worth getting episode 1 and two on DVD to enable them to have fun with the entire series. Grown ups and children alike love the story. There are other characters on sale from the film including Woody, Jessie and Lotso Huggin bear so that you can supplement your collection. There is no doubt about it, Jet Pack Buzz Lightyear will be dominating the best sellers list in toys this year.

Nerf’s latest toy, the Nerf N Strike Stampede ECS is now on the market, and proving to be very popular. The debate about toy guns and whether they are appropriate for kids or not, has been raging for a long time, so we will just leave it up to your discretion as to whether you feel they are right or wrong for your kids.
The recommended age for this toy is eight years and up and it requires batteries which make it quite heavy, so from that point of view, it is perhaps not suitable for younger kids.
Nerf N Strike Stampede ECS – Clip System
It would probably be more fitting to call this an assault weapon rather than a gun. Using the clip system, it can unleash a veritable hail of darts, reload and fire again before your adversary knows what hit them. It has a pop out bipod which can be used to steady your aim, and also a shield to protect your face from enemy fire, however, you might be tempted to invest in the Nerf N Strike tactical vest to get more body protection.
The Nerf N Strike Stampede ECS is fully automatic and can hurl darts out to a range of about thirty feet with practice. There is no danger of the darts hurting anyone, but for obvious reasons they should not be aimed at the eyes or face. The one downside to the toy is that it cannot be used without batteries, so it is a good idea to keep some in reserve, as once a child starts playing with this toy, he won’t want to stop.
Although not recommended by Nerf, some kids like to mix and match between the many different models of Nerf guns available. Finding other kids to play with should not present any problems as there are many Nerf enthusiasts round. As with many toys one big problem might be that Dad wants to play too, and will monopolise the toy given half a chance.
